Accountants for Sole Traders London

Sole Trader Accountant — London

Your sole trader accounts, sorted remotely.

Most London sole traders are either overpaying a local firm they rarely speak to, or putting the books off until January panics and guesswork. JD Accountancy handles your self-assessment, bookkeeping, and VAT entirely remotely — fixed fee agreed in writing, Xero Certified, and same-day replies Monday to Saturday.

  • Your self-assessment filed accurately, well before the January deadline
  • Tax bill known in advance — no last-minute HMRC surprises
  • Bookkeeping kept current, not reconstructed under pressure at year-end
  • Direct WhatsApp and phone access to Joey, not a junior or a ticket queue

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Still not sure what your tax bill is going to be this year?

Most sole traders in London get one of two things from their accountant: a bill that arrives with no explanation, or silence until January. You do not hear from them between returns, you cannot get a quick answer when something changes in the business, and the fee feels the same regardless of how little they did. Meanwhile the books drift, the records pile up, and the self-assessment becomes something you dread rather than something you plan for.

  • Tax bill lands without warning because no one is monitoring your position
  • Quick questions go unanswered for days — or get billed as extra time
  • Books left in a mess until January and reconstructed in a rush

What sorted looks like

You know your tax position before HMRC reminds you it exists. Bookkeeping runs in the background. And when something changes — a new client, a one-off payment, a VAT threshold question — you get an answer the same day.

  • Your tax bill estimated months in advance, not discovered in January
  • Questions answered the day you ask — phone, WhatsApp, or email
  • Books kept current throughout the year, not scrambled at year-end
  • Fixed fee in writing before any work starts — no billable-hours surprises

What you get

Everything a sole trader needs, covered

The fee covers your core compliance from end to end. No add-on charges for a standard question, no separate invoice for the work that should have been included.

01

Self-Assessment Tax Return

Your return handled from start to finish — income, allowable expenses, any additional sources. You will know your tax liability well before the payment deadline, not the week before. Nothing filed without your sign-off.

Included as standard
02

Bookkeeping and Xero Setup

Day-to-day records kept current using Xero, with bank feeds reconciled regularly so your figures are always up to date. No year-end scramble because the work is done as you go. If you are not on Xero yet, the migration is handled for you.

Cloud-based, paperless
03

VAT Returns and MTD Compliance

If you are VAT-registered or approaching the threshold, your returns are filed on time every quarter. Scheme selection — flat rate, standard, cash accounting — is reviewed to make sure you are not overpaying. Making Tax Digital obligations are managed as part of the same service.

Quarterly filing included

Why JD Accountancy

Why London sole traders use a Wrexham accountant

Location has not been relevant to accounting for some time. What matters is whether you can actually get hold of them, and whether they know what they are doing.

📞

You speak to Joey, not whoever picks up

Every client at JD Accountancy deals directly with Joey. No being passed to a junior, no ticket system, no ‘someone will be in touch’. The person who reads your books is the person who answers your WhatsApp. That is not a selling point at larger firms because it is not something larger firms can offer.

🕖

Available when you can actually talk

Most sole traders are working during the day. Joey is contactable from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday — phone, WhatsApp, or email — and often on Sundays when something needs sorting. You do not have to take time out of a client day to chase your accountant.

🔒

Fixed fee before any work starts

The fee is scoped to the size and complexity of your business and confirmed in writing before anything begins. No hourly billing, no extra charge for a question that takes five minutes, no invoice you were not expecting. If scope changes, that conversation happens before the work does.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Most clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is designed so that your main job is to say yes to the fee proposal.

1

Free initial chat

Get in touch by phone, WhatsApp, or email. You will talk through your situation as a sole trader — turnover, whether you are VAT-registered, what state the books are in — and whether JD Accountancy is a sensible fit. No pressure. If it is not right, that is said plainly.

2

Fixed quote in writing

After the call you receive a fixed fee proposal scoped to your actual business. No vague estimates, no hourly rate to worry about later. You accept it or you do not — there is no obligation either way.

3

We handle the switch

If you have an existing accountant, they are contacted on your behalf. Your records are brought across, Xero is set up or migrated, and HMRC authorisation is updated. You sign one form. The legwork is done for you.

4

Direct access, ongoing

Bookkeeping runs in the background, returns are filed on time, and your tax position is visible throughout the year. When something changes in the business, you message Joey directly and get an answer the same day. That is, broadly speaking, the way it should work.

Questions

Things London sole traders usually ask

I am based in London — does working with an accountant in Wrexham cause any practical problems?+

None. Every aspect of the service runs remotely — Xero for bookkeeping, email and WhatsApp for day-to-day queries, and video or phone for any review conversations. The vast majority of JD Accountancy’s clients outside North Wales have never needed to visit in person. If you prefer a face-to-face meeting at some point, that can be arranged, but it has not come up as a requirement for remote clients.

What does it cost, and what is actually included?+

Fees are fixed and scoped to your business — turnover, whether you are VAT-registered, transaction volume, and whether payroll or CIS is relevant. The fee is confirmed in writing before any work begins. Self-assessment, bookkeeping support, and HMRC correspondence are included as standard. There is no hourly rate and no separate charge for a routine question during the year.

My books are behind. Is that a problem when switching?+

It is common, and it is manageable. If records need catching up, the scope of that work is assessed and priced separately before it starts — so you know what the catch-up costs before committing. Once the backlog is cleared, ongoing bookkeeping keeps things current going forward. The previous accountant is contacted on your behalf so you do not have to manage that conversation.

Is there a minimum contract or lock-in period?+

No minimum term. The arrangement works on a rolling monthly basis. If after three months it is not working for you, you leave with your records in order, your Xero access intact, and nothing owed beyond work already completed. It is not in anyone’s interest to hold clients who would rather be elsewhere.

Can you help if I have multiple income streams alongside my sole trader income?+

Yes. Many sole traders have employment income, rental income, or investment income alongside their self-employed earnings. All sources are included in the self-assessment, allowances are applied correctly, and the overall tax position is reviewed as a whole — not just the self-employed portion in isolation.

How far in advance will I know what my tax bill is going to be?+

For most sole traders with current bookkeeping, a reliable tax estimate is available several months before the January payment deadline. That gives you time to set aside the right amount or make an advance payment on account if that helps your cash flow. You should not be finding out your liability in the same week it is due.
