Sound familiar?

Still not sure what your tax bill is going to be?

Most small business owners in Wrexham reach the self-assessment deadline with incomplete records, an unclear tax figure, and the nagging sense they have probably paid too much — or not enough. VAT thresholds creep up without warning. Corporation Tax computations sit unstarted. None of this is unusual, but it is all avoidable.

  • Tax bill arrives as a surprise — no visibility until the deadline is close
  • VAT threshold approached without knowing whether registration is due
  • Records are behind, so year-end becomes a scramble to catch up

What sorted looks like

Clean books mean a visible tax position. A visible tax position means no surprises. Joey monitors your position throughout the year and files everything on time — so the deadline is an administrative event, not a stressful one.

  • Tax liability known well in advance — no surprises when the bill lands
  • VAT threshold monitored — registration obligation flagged before it becomes a problem
  • Books kept current throughout the year so year-end is straightforward
  • Fixed fee in writing before any work starts — no hourly billing surprises later

Why JD Accountancy

What makes the difference in practice

Three things that matter when you are choosing a tax accountant in Wrexham — and what they look like here.

🤝

You deal with Joey directly

Every client deals with Joey — no junior picking up your call, no ticket queue, no being passed around. The person who reads your books also answers your emails. For sole traders and small companies, that consistency is the difference between an accountant you can use and one you avoid contacting.

📞

Available when you can actually talk

Most small business owners cannot sit down with their accountant at 11am on a Tuesday. Joey is contactable from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday — phone, WhatsApp, or email — and often Sundays when needed. If you want to go through your year-end after the school run, that is a normal request here.

🔒

Fixed fee before work starts

The fee is agreed in writing before anything begins, scoped to the actual size and complexity of your business. No hourly billing, no invoice surprises because a question took fifteen minutes to answer. What you are quoted is what you pay.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Most clients are fully onboarded within a week of the first call. The paperwork is minimal — one signature from you, the rest handled here.

1

Free initial call or chat

Get in touch by phone, WhatsApp, or the form on this page. Joey will ask a few questions about your situation — what you do, your turnover, whether you are VAT-registered, what has and has not been filed. No pressure, no commitment. If it is not a good fit, that will be said plainly.

2

Fixed quote in writing

After the call you receive a fixed fee in writing, scoped to the actual work involved. No hourly estimates, no open-ended retainers. You know exactly what you are paying before signing anything.

3

Switching handled for you

If you are moving from another accountant, Joey contacts them directly to retrieve records, updates HMRC authorisations, and gets Xero set up or migrated. You sign one form. The rest is handled without you needing to chase anyone.

4

Direct access, ongoing

From that point your books are kept current, returns are filed on time, and your tax position is visible throughout the year. Phone, WhatsApp, or email Joey directly — 7am to 7pm, six days a week. The deadline stops being an event you dread and becomes one you barely notice.

Questions

Things people usually ask before getting started

Do you handle all types of tax work — self-assessment, Corporation Tax, VAT, and CIS?+

Yes. The practice covers self-assessment for sole traders, landlords, and contractors; Corporation Tax and year-end accounts for small limited companies; VAT returns and MTD compliance; CIS deduction handling and monthly statements; and payroll where needed. If your situation involves more than one of those — a director drawing salary and dividends while also holding a rental property, for example — that is routine work here, not a specialist referral.

What does it cost and what does the fee include?+

Fees are fixed and scoped to the size and complexity of your business — not charged hourly. After a short call, you receive a written quote covering everything agreed: tax returns, VAT, bookkeeping, year-end, or whichever combination applies to you. There are no separate charges for a quick question or a short email. What you are quoted is what you pay.

My books are behind and I have not filed for a year or two. Can you still help?+

That is a common starting point. A catch-up quote is provided upfront so you know the cost before any work begins. Joey contacts your previous accountant if there is one, retrieves whatever records exist, and works through the backlog methodically. HMRC penalty mitigation can also be discussed where late filings have accrued charges.

Is there a long-term contract or minimum term?+

No minimum term and no lock-in contract. If after three months it is not working for you, you leave with your records in order, your files transferred to whoever you move to, and nothing outstanding. The arrangement continues because clients find it useful, not because they are contractually obligated.

I am based outside Wrexham. Can you still act as my accountant?+

Yes. Roughly half of the client base is outside Wrexham and North Wales. Everything runs through Xero, with communication by phone, WhatsApp, video call, or email. Being in a different part of the UK makes no practical difference to how the work is handled or how quickly questions get answered.

How far in advance will I know what my tax bill is going to be?+

With books kept current through the year, your approximate tax liability is visible on a rolling basis — not just in January when the self-assessment deadline arrives. For limited company directors, the dividend and salary position is reviewed as part of year-end planning, so there are no surprises when the Corporation Tax computation is filed.
